The Last Five Years

  • Riverfront Playhouse 1950 California Street Redding, CA, 96001 United States (map)

Riverfront Playhouse is proud to announce their next mainstage production and the first  musical they will be presenting at their new facility, The Last Five Years written by Jason Robert Brown and directed by  Lauren Rose-Stanfield with musical direction by Cheyenne Harrah.

The Last Five Years tells the love story of Jamie Wellerstein and Cathy Hiatt as they move through time towards each  other and then eventually away from each other. Jamie starts telling his story at the beginning of their relationship while  Cathy starts at the end. Eventually they meet in the middle at the high point of their love.

This unique method of storytelling highlights the way our own perspectives can affect our understanding of the same  interactions. Come see this poignant and beautifully written story about love starring Madison Nascimento and Sam  Read.

Director Lauren Rose-Stanfield articulates the captivating essence of the play. "Telling a story that takes place in two  respective timelines is interesting, especially finding ways to emphasize the moments that reflect each other. As you  watch, you’ll notice the moments of success parallel immediately with moments of rejection from the other person. This  being the story of the composer, Jason Robert Brown’s, real relationship as told by him, it’s easy to relate to Jamie and  Cathy as they sing through the ups and downs of their relationship."

The Last Five Years is generously sponsored by the Active 20-30 Club of Redding and opens at Riverfront Playhouse on January 26 and runs weekends through February 11 with a special preview performance on January 25. Preview and  Friday and Saturday Night performances start at 7:30 with Sunday matinees beginning at 2:00. Tickets can be purchased  online at riverfrontplayhouse.net, in person by walking in to Enjoy the Store, or at the theater box office beginning one  hour before the show starts.
