Tai Chi Ch’uam originated several hundred years ago in China. It consists of a series of movements that are performed in a slow, meditative manner. The movements are designed to relieve stress and develop flexibility, balance, and concentration. Tai Chi is perfect for those who need an exercise that is relaxing and rejuvenating but not strenuous. Because of its health benefits, Tai Chi has become a popular exercise in the U.S.

Class for Beginners

The class is held at Old City Hall in downtown Redding. The class will meet from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, starting September 1, 2016. This one-hour class emphasizes the health aspects of the art. Students will learn the three sections of the Tai Chi form, a set of prearranged movements, over a period of approximately five months. They will also learn several sets of movements practiced with a partner known as “Join Hands” or “Push Hands”. No special clothing is needed for the class. Just dress comfortably.

[This is NOT a drop-in class. New classes are offered only twice a year. You can put your name on a waiting list by sending an email to or call 530.223.2346]
