MORE LOCAL OPP'S:
--------------------------------------------
What does $720 million a day look like?

To date, the Iraq war has cost 1 trillion dollars. And that amount increases by $720 million each day that fighting continues. In an effort to put the cost in perspective, a coalition of local peace groups and individuals is announcing a call to all local artists.

"We are issuing a challenge for artists to create an original work that represents the tremendous amount of money and resources expended in the unpopular conflict," said Gypsy Perry, spokeswoman for the coalition. "The purpose of this art project is to help viewers realize, on an emotional as well as intellectual level, the enormous negative impact that war has on our entire society."

Artists may use any medium to create a poster portraying what they see as the costs of the Iraq War. The project is open to all.

Information on the cost of the Iraq war can be accessed through the internet at www.afsc.org/cost or you may contact Gypsy Perry for a packet of information. We also invite you to disseminate this information to anyone in your art association, classes or to your friends who may be interested in participating.

Original works should be brought to the event between 1:00-1:30 p.m. at the Redding Library Community Room on Sunday, October 12. Each entry should be no larger that 36” X 48” and should be on rigid backing for ease of displaying. Artists are invited to remain throughout the entire event to explain their artwork to interested viewers.

The event is free and open to the public and will take place from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Speakers, to include local columnist Bob Williams, will present information on how the staggering cost of the war has affected us on a national as well as local level.

For more information, contact Gypsy Perry at gypsyperry3@earthlink.net or 530-396-2449 or Shelly Godfroy at 530-410-8761or at shellly_2000@yahoo.com.

Share your work with buyers who appreciate your vision and come to experience art amidst this idyllic urban to green setting. Art begins here. At the intersection of art and life.
The jury process is highly competitive with thousands of applicants from around the world competing for 200+ available juried slots in 14 media categories ranging from painting to 3-D mixed media at Austin’s major annual outdoor art fair. Art City Austin has been ranked the top art festival in Texas and Twentieth in the Nation (The Harris List) and is noted to be a “high quality event…extremely well juried” (The ArtFair Source Book). This year may well redefine what an outdoor art fair can be.
Welcome to art city.
